Design Concept & Inspiration

The Signature FBO Terminal, is the largest two-story private aviation facility on Oahu, redefining luxury travel with a design that captures the vibrant essence of the island. Designed by CHB Architects, this state-of-the-art terminal elevates the passenger experience through a seamless blend of modern sophistication, cultural authenticity, and functional excellence.

Serving as a gateway for Signature Aviation's elite clientele, the terminal transforms transit into an immersive celebration of Oahu’s heritage and natural beauty, setting a new benchmark for private aviation design.

Cultural Collaboration

CHB Architects partnered with Native Hawaiian artisans to incorporate custom artworks, including a large-scale mural depicting Oahu’s coastal history and handcrafted koa wood sculptures of traditional fishing tools. These elements ensure the terminal feels deeply rooted in local culture.

Sustainable Design
Eco-conscious features include energy-efficient LED lighting, solar-reflective glazing to reduce heat gain, and a rainwater harvesting system integrated into the fishpond-inspired landscaping. These elements align with Hawaii’s environmental values and enhance the terminal’s sustainability.

Functional Excellence

The layout optimizes flow for high-net-worth travelers, with streamlined check-in areas, private concierge desks, and dedicated spaces for business meetings. The two-story design maximizes space, with the upper level offering exclusive VIP lounges and direct boarding access.

Refined Material Palette

The terminal showcases a curated selection of materials, including polished koa wood paneling, volcanic basalt accents, and handwoven lauhala-inspired textiles. These elements create a warm, luxurious ambiance that reflects Oahu’s natural and cultural heritage while maintaining a sleek, modern aesthetic.

ʻIlima-Inspired Accents

The vibrant yellow ʻilima flower, a symbol of Oahu, inspires delicate floral motifs etched into glass partitions, woven into custom upholstery, and subtly integrated into lighting fixtures. These accents add a layer of cultural depth, connecting the design to the island’s identity.

Landscaping Honoring Tradition

The terminal’s exterior features meticulously designed landscapes that pay tribute to Oahu’s traditional fishponds, with water features and native plants like taro and naupaka arranged in serene, reflective pools. These gardens create a calming arrival experience and provide shaded outdoor seating areas for passengers.
